| Historic Elk Hotel Nothing can speak more eloquently of the refinement and material prosperity of any community than the possession of a first-class hotel. In this respect, since the Elk Hotel was thrown open to the public in April 1894 Sutton has been in advance of many pretentious towns. The hotel is a three-story brick structure, having 41 rooms aside from a large and airy dinning-room. It possesses modern sanitary plumbing features, and is well ventilated. The table is supplied with all the markets afford, and in every particular the hotel is first-class. With all its conveniences, rate are but $2.00 a day.
The Elk hotel is a superb example of 19th century hotel architecture. Visitors can step back in time to an era when the main lighting system was sunlight. Sutton being a county set town is on the Elk river and in home to Sutton Dam. There is everything a family or a sportsman could dream of, such as hunting, fishing, canoeing, bicycling, archery, and picnicking, just to name a few. We are currently renovating the hotel to preserve its historical significance and are exploring the feasibility of restore the interior.
The Elk Hotel is Listed on The National Register of Historic Places, Sutton Downtown Historic District.
